Forgetfulness and Frozen Waffles
In the morning mirror
eyes still caked with sleep
are chided upon by decaffeinated drawls.
Slaps of cold water are ineffective.
Brush bristles fail to untangle grizzled frizz.
I hear the wind howl and harmonize.
There are children asleep upstairs
who wake and say things I can't imagine.
They hide the truth. Dare me to bite,
Well aware of my handicap
between forgetfulness and frozen waffles.
